Blogging vs Vlogging – What Makes More Money?

Today, YouTube has turned into one of many ways to make money online. It seemed that the first goal for internet users was to blog. Now that the internet speeds are increasing, more people are resorting to taking the step forward and video blogging instead. YouTube claims to get over 100 million views a day and it’s still increasing. This made me wonder whether the developing internet is changing the best way to make money online. Is it still through blogging or is it in fact with vlogging?

So let’s highlight the main differences between blogging and vlogging:

Writing Articles is Far Quicker than Creating Videos
This depends on what type of videos you create but the rule of thumb is that writing an article may take you at most a few hours. A video in some cases take a whole day if not a week (and just for a 3 minute video!). Therefore, if you are someone who hasn’t got a lot of spare time, you may want to blog before you vlog.

YouTube is Viral
When you think of the word, ‘Viral’, you will most likely associate it with YouTube videos such as Fenton the Dog. I have a friend who started a YouTube account about her singing (she’s a pretty good singer and musician too, her name on YouTube is doddleoddle.) She started out a few months ago I think (around that time) and has already got over 120,000+ views. I started Ask Will Online in January 2011 and have a total of 140,000 views. Her videos are so successful, it made me wonder why I should ever blog if you can vlog and gain the same results in literally months! If your reading this Dodie, well done on becoming a YouTube star 😉

YouTube Let’s You Connect to Your Audience Easier
Yes, you can follow websites via Twitter, Facebook, RSS and many other types. The problem is that there are too many ways to follow websites. With YouTube, there is one universal way to follow YouTube channels: subscription. That’s it and that’s a reason why YouTube is so successful: it’s so simple.

After reading this, what road are you going to take or continue to follow? Have you got the time to become a YouTube star like doddleoddle and get bigger rewards? Or have you only got enough time to consistently create good quality articles?
