From Google's heat map of where you should place ads, the best place to place adverts are directly in the blog posts as people will read the ads and potentially click on them. No matter what pay per click program you use, from Google Adsense, to Chitika, to adBrite to Ad:Dynamo, this technique of putting adverts in the middle of blog posts will work for any PPC program.
The good thing about this method of placing ads in the posts is that you have freedom where you want to place the ads, be it nearer the top, bottom or smack bang in the middle. You will not need to edit your HTML code in anyway which is always handy.
There are two methods you can do this, here's the first method:
Click on posting tab which will take you to the screen where you can make a new post entry. Click on the top right button 'Edit HTML'. Where ever you want your ad to appear, place this code there:
<div align="center"> <table align="left" border="0" cellpadding="0"><tbody> <tr> <td align="center"><div align="center"> YOUR ADSENSE CODE HERE </div> </td> </tr> </tbody></table> </div>
If not, you have probably done something wrong so check over it again and look for any errors. If you want to put this inside every post, then go to dashboard, then settings, then formatting and scroll to the bottom where you can paste the code into the text box so it appears every time you start a new post.
